Yes, you can collect cosmic dust on Earth

By Irina K. Romanovskaya

Scientists estimate that more than 5,000 tons (10,000,000 pounds) of cosmic dust land on the surface of our planet every year. With a bit of effort and the proper tools, you can collect a tiny sample of this celestial material. A magnet and a plastic bag or plastic sheet are all that is required. Simply lay the bag or sheet on the ground somewhere outdoors, wait a few hours, then run a magnet over it. Because some of the cosmic particles include metals, you’ll see tiny specks of cosmic dust clinging to the magnet. It’s a fun way to experience the wonders of the cosmos in your own backyard.
